Journey of Udaan

Behind the Moodboard

There’s something about transformation, the way a cocoon silently turns into a butterfly. The way something simple, like yarn, turns into fabric, and fabric into a garment that carries meaning. Udaan is that transformation. I remember before finding the theme for the 2025 collection, I knew I wanted to do something different... in terms of silhouettes, but with textiles also.

How do we create fabrics that breathe, move, and feel like second skin in the heat? And beyond that, how do we make sustainability more accessible without compromising on quality and craftsmanship? The answer lay in experimentation.

I sat with our weavers, tested fabrics, adjusted densities. 20 failed designs for one that finally felt right. The goal was clear: silhouettes that needed no extra layers, no unnecessary stitches but also Paridhaan garments that flowed as effortlessly as the fabric itself. And I knew affordability mattered. Sustainability often comes at a cost, and I hear it all the time—handwoven pieces feel expensive. With Udaan, we worked on bringing that cost down through a thoughtful fusion of fabrics—Jamdani, Khadi, and handwoven cotton. This collection is about ease, movement, and bringing handloom into everyday life.

Why Udaan Took Inspiration from Zen Fashion

Handloom in India has always been seen through a traditional lens—saris, kurtas, dupattas. Beautiful, but often restricted to a certain silhouette. With Udaan, I wanted to change that. I’ve always admired Zen fashion with fast fashion- loose, effortless, yet structured in a way that doesn’t feel baggy. The kind of clothing that gives freedom of movement but still looks put-together. But never seen indian kurtis in that concept. Most handwoven garments either fit too snugly or feel oversized in a way that lacks structure. I wanted to create something that was both relaxed and shaped—a balance of ease and refinement.

So, we worked on our own patterns. We experimented with cuts that gave movement, but didn’t drown the body. Felt light, but still had shape. Looked fashionable, yet stayed true to handloom’s raw beauty

This wasn’t about just making oversized garments, it was about creating silhouettes that let the fabric breathe and flow naturally.

Udaan is India’s take on Zen fashion—where handwoven textiles meet mindful, relaxed fits. Because fashion should never feel restrictive. It should let you move, exist, and express yourself effortlessly.
